  sports, movies, fashion, houses, and….. hot boys?

  in case anyone who reads this is not aware, i have a facebook group dedicated to my exchange as well. its pretty much short status update type things that my friends can read, and feel better about themselves for “keeping up with their friend” but thats pretty much why i made it though, so it serves its purpose. and then people who are seriously interested, have no lives, or dont know that group exists, well, they come here. to my tumblr. and read about actual germany stuff. (which i dont really write about enough… not the point) anyway. so i asked in the facebook group what people wanted to hear about in this blog post. because i was running out of ideas. the list of things i got (in order of getting them) was

  -hot boys

  -fashion

  -houses

  -sports

  -movies. 

  good to know at least my friends have their priorities straight? hahaha. ill start with fashion. its kinda similar to america, really. for the girls, skinny jeans, sweaters, skirts and tights, and pretty much anything you can buy at H&M. for guys, same…… hahah. no, uh. jeans (mostly skinny jeans), sweaters, sweatshirts, tshirts, and again, pretty much anything you can buy at H&M. haha. :) so, like in america, except no sweat pants, or tshirts from like, sports teams or your school or anything. also, no sport team or school sweatshirts or anything. more like american eagle sweatshirts. a tshirts. and, scarves, of course. here is where i would just like to say, that germans generally do NOT walk around in Dirndls or Lederhosen with funny hats with feathers and wooden shoes holding a beer. just saying. 

  houses. well, a house is a house. no matter where you are. thats it…….really…..uhh. german architecture is really cool, some of its super old and cool, and some of its super new and high tech. oh! lots of people live in apartments, or like, combined houses. whats that called? where theres a house, then its split in half, and theres two doors, and one family lives on one side and one on the other? lots of those here too. and from what ive seen, most have cool wood stoves to heat the house. yeah. thats it, really. theyre just houses. totally like in america. i mean, we have houses, they have houses….. yeah….. 

  sports. soccer!  who doesnt love german soccer? okay, well in america, the only german soccer team that people know is bayern munich. and their national team. but yeah soccer is really popular. and handball. americans dont have handball. and i dont really know anything about it, but its super cool to watch. also, there are no school sports. you have to join a club, and therefore, i dont think i know anyone here who plays any more than one sport. 

  movies are mostly the same, just translated. or theyre german movies. not much different. the music is also mostly english. (and, sometimes not even the good stuff…..) yeah, ive seen like two movies since i got here. so i cant really say. i can tell you that the last part of the last harry potter movie was really good….

  and as for the boys, well, thats my best friend for you. cant ever ask real questions. ;)

  pop culture at its finest, im sure.

  its weird thinking that when i get home, there will be a year long gap in my knowledge of stuff. like, music and styles and stuff like that. cause then ill be hearing songs that are new to me and everyone will be like, OH MY GOD TURN THAT OFF ITS SO OLD. and then theres facebook. which sort of keeps me up to date but really not enough, because i have no idea what yolo means or why everyone keeps saying it. i imagine a yo-yo. like, they felt like going out side, so theyre gonna go yo-yo. also, apparently theres a band called one direction that every girl is in love with. never heard of them and cant be bothered to look it up. IS THIS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE OLD?! :O

  all good things have to come to an end eventually.

  and that is exactly what is happening. but first, the german life is treating me quite well. on monday i went to Maifest and yesterday i went to Abifest. both of which are pretty much just huge parties, for anyone wondering. in germany, when your a “senior” in “highschool” (the “” is because it cant really be compared cause its so different, but i will try.) anyway. when your a “senior” instead of writing your senior thesis, you have to write abi. well, take abi. abitur, that is. its like, this biiig huge test that marks the end of your “highschool” career. think SATs+senior thesis+junior year finals. all of the important things rolled into one. its ridiculously intense and a really, really big deal. there are written portions, and oral portions. the written portions are all done (speaking of, imagine this: going outside after your last final of senior year, walking to right off school grounds, everyone getting ridiculously drunk and staying that way all night. well, until they go to an abi party.  or, well, graduation party i guess, with all your friends from school). so anyway that happened a while ago. but just yesterday (thursday, friday, and yesterday, actually. one day isnt long enough to celebrate ;) was abifest. now, imagine that you went to school in a town where there was 5 different public schools. for example, one art school, one music school, one science school, one technical school, and one…..i dont know farming school (so, thatd be northern…….. haha :) anyway. so theres five schools and you all took this big test at the same time. well, you guys totally all need to celebrate together. and you can. at abifest. well, that was a long explination, but, long story short, america should have abi. SATs are dumb anyway and everyone knows it (this may or may not have anything to do with me HATING the stupid college board for how to take SATs out of country cause the whole process sucks big time,but i digress) 

  anyway, poinst of this post. yes, i do have a departure date. its august 11th. i shall be seeing you all in no time. 

  questions i hear often, and feel i should answer=

  while i may not be super psyched that my amazing year is over, i am super psyched to be seeing my friends and family again. with any luck, some of you will want to take me to the beach. i miss the beach. or six flags. i miss six flags too. 

  no, i havent been swimming in germany, but yes, i do plan to swim when i get back. (so, yes, i will be just as busy as before and will still have no time for you. sorry.)

  no, i will not have a parking spot. -_- 

  yes, i can speak german now. but you cant so stop asking me to translate things to test me. i have started saying your an idiot as your translation when you ask me to translate stupid things. 

  im still me, and while i suck at keeping in contact with people, its a two way street so dont be toooo mad. i did leave my whole life behind. but, with that being said, i have boughten a billion presents, starting at christmas and just never shipped them. so expect lots of presents. and chocolate. and gummie bears. dont worry, i havent forgotten about you guys. :D

  other than that, not much to say. ill post the time i come home on facebook soon. who wants to come visit me at the airport? ;) hahahah

  updates.

  well, there are a few reasons i dont really post in this blog. 

  1-i suck at life and anyone whos waiting for a blog post should probably personally write me and tell me so then i start feeling bad and actually do it. 

  2-writing is not my strong suit, and when i finally sit down and write, i start to babble and end up editing it. 

  3-talking is so much easier than writing. and quicker. but i tried a videoblog once, and failed cause i felt like a freak talking to myself…. 

  but anyway. the good people of tumblr (who at this point is pretty much like, my mother….) here is your update. first of all, sorry i dont have a lot of pictures. i will change that, sometime. really, i promise. i have been having camera troubles, and this is no joke! but now, i stole my mothers nice nikon camera, and its all good. :D anyway. recently, ive done a whole lot. i went of a trip with AYUSA to Dresden. it is a really pretty city. we did this cool tour thing, then we got time to chill with the other exchange students, which was fun cause the other exchange students are awesome. :) then last week, i went to berlin with a friend of mine. berlin is a ridiculously awesome city. it was cool to see all the sights there, and get to meet up with a friend. after that, my parents came to visit. we walked around heidenheim, went to ulm, went swimming, and shopping, of course. it was nice that they could come visit. then on friday, i went to frankfurt and met up with two friends of mine. it was a lot of fun, even if we just walked around and did nothing all day. now my two week break is over, and school starts again tomorrow. -_- i cant be TOO upset, though, my jazz band is taking a trip from tuesday to wednesday or thursday, so no school for me. :) 

  well, i guess ill update later. maybe.

  fuuuuuuuuuuußball!

  germans are a bit ridiculous about their soccer. and by a little bit, i mean, im quite sure some of them are crazier than eagles fans. (yeah. THAT bad ;) ) and without knowing this i mentioned i was a bayern “fan”. as in, an american fan that roots for them to win if she happens to catch the game, and might check the scores (for BAYERN or whoever theyre really close with who i would like for them to beat. :) ) its funny to learn the difference between an american soccer fan and german soccer fans (think football fans that paint their stomachs at each game. haha). since i mentioned it though, one boy from my class tells me the scores of the game every now and then. how he knows? im not sure because his favorite team is in the 2nd leage (bayern is in the 1st) and when it comes to 1st league he still doesnt like bayern. he just…..knows. its so funny! :D

  seriously though. when i left, being a hipster was (ironically enough) becoming a trend. and then i got on a plane and came to the land of vans sneakers, floral patterns, dreads, and scarves. an just the way german people are remind me of hipsters in america. (except cooler. ;) )

  upside down glasses.

  i heard about this dude. he did an experiment, using upside down glasses. with your eyes, the way they work is they see something. say a picture. then flip it. then thats what you see. in two weeks, everything will look back to normal again. right side up and so. think about that for a minute. do you know how impressive that is? in two weeks, your brain can turn your whole world upside down, literally. it reminds me of being an exchange student. your world is getting turn upside down.  and, even though it takes more than two weeks, you eventually get accustomed to your new, upsidedown life. know what happened when that dude took the glasses off? his world was upside down again. he got so used to the glasses, that they became his new normal. then, after two weeks without glasses, he was fine again. just like an exchange student. you get normal to your life in your country. its normal for you. then you go home, and in your mind, you were never gone, when in reality you had been gone for a year. so much can change in a year. but, after a while, your eyes get used to living without the glasses. but, just for the record, can i point out how awesome that is?! (and, you know, in case this post was getting too serious, IM TOTALLY DOING THAT WHEN I GET HOME. my birthday is march 23. someone please find and give me upsidedown glasses.)
